The album Viva Mauriat from 1968 was one of the releases issued during the period when Paul Mauriat experienced international commercial success following the hit "Love Is Blue." Consistent with Mauriat's signature style, the album is a collection of instrumental arrangements of popular international melodies and standards. The title "Viva Mauriat" and the inclusion of tracks like "Yo Soy Aquel" and "Perfidia" suggest the album was aimed, in part, at the Latin American market, where Mauriat was particularly popular. The musical content of the album is characterized by a lush and romantic orchestral sound, rich in strings and keyboard textures, which is typical of the Easy Listening genre, where Mauriat masterfully reinterpreted pop hits for a broad audience.
